Helena, MT – Get your popcorn and settle in, as the Montana GOP Senate primary battle gets messier by the day. Matt Rosendale has yet to make his official campaign debut, but with all signs pointing towards his impending announcement, Tim Sheehy and his DC allies are in full meltdown mode.

IN-FIGHTING ON THE AIRWAVES: Sheehy and the NRSC are spending their precious resources attacking Rosendale before he’s even launched his campaign. Montana Policy Action released a new attack ad hitting Rosendale this morning. The New York Times reported that the NRSC just ordered six figures worth of television ads supporting Sheehy and the Daines-backed super PAC More Jobs, Less Government is testing a bizarre attack ad against Rosendale.

READY TO RUN: Last week, Punchbowl broke the news that Rosendale has been calling House conservatives asking for donations for his “future Senate run,” and some members of the House Freedom Caucus have already given to him. He also brought Matt Gaetz to Montana over the weekend, rubbing Gaetz’ support in NRSC Chairman Steve Daines' face.

DAINES’ INTIMIDATION TACTICS: On an appearance on Steve Bannon’s podcast on Thursday, Rosendale quickly ratcheted up the rhetoric and accused Daines of using his influence and ultrawealthy connections to force Rosendale not to run for the Senate. Obviously, these intimidation tactics do not seem to have worked.

RACE TO ROCK BOTTOM: The Republican Senate primary is sure to be a bloody brawl, if this weekend was any indication. While Rosendale campaigned with Gaetz and appeared on Bannon’s show, Sheehy trotted out an endorsement from Marjorie Taylor Greene – a rivalry that took to Twitter and centered on some of their candidates’ greatest weaknesses (like Sheehy’s max-out donation to Tim Scott).

We’ll keep updating you on the latest primary news, as there will certainly be more in-fighting and brawling to come.
