Senator Daines Votes Against Senator Tester’s Amtrak Bill

Daines Votes Against Amtrak Bill He Claims to Champion

Helena, MT — Senator Steve Daines today voted against the latest coronavirus relief package, which contains Senator Jon Tester’s important bill to restore Amtrak service to Montana’s Hi-Line. This vote is another stunning display of Senator Daines’ desire to place partisan politics over the important job of reopening Montana’s economy and getting Montanans back to work.

Just last week Senator Daines made a point of praising Senator Tester’s Amtrak bill, even adding his name as a co-sponsor. Today he voted against it. Senator Daines chose to side with Mitch McConnell and his Washington D.C party bosses against a bill he claims to support, and against the best interests of Montanans.

“Steve Daines seems to be under the impression he gets to have it both ways,” said Sandi Luckey, Montana Democratic Party Executive Director. “Last week he claimed to support Senator Tester’s bill that would restore critical Amtrak service to Montana’s Hi-Line. Today he voted it down. Steve, Montanans know manure when they smell it.”
