Out-of-Stater Navigator: Sheehy’s Carpetbagging Catches Up With Him

The Montana Republican Party is in total disarray. Local committee chairs and party officials dragged Transplant Tim Sheehy for being “anointed” by Mitch McConnell and said his candidacy was a “big story about Washington, D.C., versus the people of Montana.” Montanans across the state are calling out Sheehy for being a “wannabe cowboy,” and his carpetbagging baggage is making news. Catch up below:

MONTANA REPUBLICANS “SPLIT” AFTER ROSENDALE EXIT

New reporting today from the Helena Independent Record revealed the fraught divisions in the Montana Republican Party following Rosendale’s exit from the U.S. Senate race. Some notable quotables from Montana Republicans:

  • Darin Gaub, chairman of the Lewis & Clark County Republican Central Committee: “This is definitely a big story about Washington, D.C., versus the people of Montana [...] I think [Rosendale] would’ve won the Senate race, both primary and general, but a lot of people got in the way to make sure he wasn't there.”

  • Theresa Manzella, chairwoman of the Montana Freedom Caucus: “Eighty percent of us have to agree on an issue to take it up, and [supporting Sheehy is] not an issue we agree on. Warriors like Matt Rosendale are few and far between."

  • Pam Purinton, chair of Yellowstone County Republicans: “It is unfortunate [...] All of our elections should be voter-based, it should not be a top-down organization, but that’s what we're in the middle of.”

  • Al Olszewski, chair of the Flathead County Republican Party: “We've seen a political assassination of Matt Rosendale for U.S. Senate. It’s a punch in the gut to those of us who support him [...] Steve Daines and Mitch McConnell are anointing Tim Sheehy. The voters of Montana are not choosing him [...] If that stands, then everyone in the Montana Republican Party are sheep, and I for one, am not a sheep.”

  • Tracy Sharp, chair of Lake County Republican Party: “Amongst some, there is indeed a feeling that the deck was unjustly stacked against the extremely popular Matt Rosendale by out-of-state interests. Few things get under the skin of Montanans more than such influences injecting themselves into our election process.”

SHEEHY’S CARPETBAGGER BAGGAGE

The hits piled up against Sheehy this week – the Washington ExaminerHeartland SignalPOLITICO, and MSNBC all called out Sheehy for his carpetbagger ways as his out-of-state ties are coming to haunt him this election. Sheehy moved to Montana less than a decade ago and bought a slew of luxury properties across the state – a serious vulnerability in a state where families are being priced out of their homes due to an influx of ultra wealthy newcomers.

MONTANANS TORCH SHEEHY FOR BEING A “WANNABE COWBOY”

Montanans don’t mess around with “wannabe cowboys.” Following reportingthat Sheehy greatly exaggerated his “cowboy” credentials on the campaign trail and doesn’t run the day-to-day operations on the ranch he purchased in 2020, Montanans wrote in to the Missoula Current and Billings Gazette to express their frustration. They accused him of “play[ing] cowboy” and “running his campaign like he’s auditioning for a role on ‘Yellowstone.’”

SHEEHY SUPPORTS A NATIONAL ABORTION BAN

The consequences of Tim Sheehy’s political allies' decades-long efforts to overturn Roe v. Wade continue to ripple across the country, as an Alabama court ruling effectively ended families' ability to access fertility treatments. Sheehy called abortion murder and is endorsed by Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America (SBA), which stated in May that they have a national abortion ban “litmus test” for any candidate they endorse.

The Alabama ruling was made possible because Roe v. Wade was overturned. Sheehy remains committed to government interference in families’ most personal decisions.
