MTGOP Calls for Total Ban on Abortions, No Exceptions for Rape, Incest, or Life of the Woman

The 2022 GOP Platform cements their extremist agenda 

Helena, MT – Over the weekend, the Montana GOP certified their 2022 Party Platform, which solidified the control that the extremist flank of the party has over the Montana Republican Party. Their platform calls for a total ban on any abortion, with no exception for cases of rape, incest, or the life of the woman. 

The party has moved dramatically to the right– and no longer represents what the majority of Montanans believe. Nearly 60% of Montanans support access to safe and legal abortions. When one legislator got up to suggest an amendment that would allow for exceptions for rape, incest, or the life of the woman, the crowd booed him down. 

“The Montana GOP is radical and out-of-touch, and continues to move further away from common sense,” says Sheila Hogan, executive director of the Montana Democratic Party. “Make no mistake, the MTGOP cares more about controlling our bodies than they do about saving lives. If they succeed in enacting their platform, Montana women will die.”
