Montanans are seeing a wave of coverage from the Associated Press to MTN News that Sheehy “invented the story” about a bullet wound he claimed was from Afghanistan
Helena, MT – Montanans are tuning into a wave of news coverage highlighting breaking reporting from the New York Times and Washington Post scrutinizing Tim Sheehy’s lies about his military record, including a gunshot wound that Sheehy claims was from combat but federal records show was self-inflicted in a Glacier National Park parking lot.
News outlets ranging from the AP to MTN News are saying that Sheehy is being “nagged by claims he lied about [his] bullet wound” and that he faces “fresh scrutiny” after the “bombshell reports” exposed “major holes” in his story.
See the headlines for yourself:
“A former Park Service ranger said Friday that U.S. Senate hopeful Tim Sheehy of Montana has been lying about a bullet wound that the candidate said came from fighting in Afghanistan — going public with an accusation that has nagged the Republican’s campaign for months.”
“A new report has raised additional questions about the origins of a gunshot wound that Montana Republican U.S. Senate candidate and former Navy SEAL Tim Sheehy said he received during a 2012 firefight in Afghanistan.”
“Montana GOP U.S. Senate hopeful Tim Sheehy is again facing pushback over his account of sustaining a bullet wound in his arm while deployed overseas.”
“Peach’s account explicitly contradicts Sheehy’s claim that he was shot in the arm during military combat, a story that the Republican candidate has shared throughout his US Senate campaign.”
“A park ranger who talked with Sheehy in the hospital in 2015 told the Times on the record that Sheehy told him he had accidentally shot himself. ‘I am 100 percent sure he shot himself that day,’ Kim Peach told the paper.”
“Did a Montana candidate for Senate lie about being shot in Afghanistan? [...] The Senate hopeful claims he suffered the injury while serving in Afghanistan, but a pair of new interviews in the New York Times and Washington Post call that fact into doubt. The interviews with Sheehy's fellow former SEAL and a Montana park ranger indicate Sheehy may have accidentally shot himself in 2015.”
“Travis Tazelaar, a Marine Corps veteran and political director at the organization VoteVets, shredded Sheehy in a statement: ‘These new bombshell reports detailing Tim Sheehy’s inconsistencies in describing his military service raises serious questions and concerns,’ said Tazelaar. ‘As a Veteran-led organization, we are deeply troubled that a fellow Veteran may have misrepresented aspects of their service while trying to win a political campaign. Montanans deserve to be represented by someone who will be honest with them and the nation.’"
