Navy SEAL who served with Sheehy: “It seems obvious to me and every other operator I’ve talked to about this” that Sheehy is lying about his gunshot wound

Helena, MT – Breaking reporting from the New York Times and Washington Post provided new firsthand accounts that dispute Tim Sheehy’s claims that he received a gunshot wound in Afghanistan – when records show it was a self-inflicted gunshot wound from Glacier National Park in 2015.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • On the campaign trail, Sheehy has claimed that he was shot in Afghanistan.

  • But federal records and the park ranger who was called to the scene revealed that Sheehy’s gunshot wound was self-inflicted in a Glacier National Park parking lot. Sheehy reported to park ranger Kim Peach that he “accidentally shot himself in the right arm after his gun dropped to the ground while he said he was loading up gear after a hike.” Peach cited Sheehy a $525 ticket after a park visitor called in hearing a gunshot, and Sheehy sought treatment at the hospital.

  • When reporting revealed that Sheehy shot himself in Glacier National Park, Sheehy stopped talking about the injury on the campaign trail.

  • Now, the park ranger and a former Navy SEAL who served with Sheehy have publicly disputed Sheehy’s story.

  • Sheehy has refused to release his medical records or allow the hospital staff who treated his injury to speak with the press.
