Helena, MT– As President Trump’s reckless tariff war fuels recession fears, paralyzes international trade, and creates extreme volatility in our markets, Montana’s Congressional delegation is ignorantly doubling down on their out-of-touch MAGA talking points on live television interviews.

Congressman Ryan Zinke joined Wolf Blitzer on CNN today, defending Trump’s tariffs as “short-term” and “purposeful”. Senator Tim Sheehy was on CNN last week, acknowledging that Montanans would no doubt experience “short-term pain” thanks to the Trump administration's policies, comparing the experience with the inconveniences of a home renovation.

Both Zinke and Sheehy failed to describe how long working Montanans will have to endure “short-term” pain and fear of an increased cost of living, an unknown future of retirement accounts, and a tumbling market with no end in sight.

“The insensitivity and nonchalance of these men discussing the potential financial ruining of working Montanans and their families is downright insulting,” said Interim Executive Director of the Montana Democratic Party, Justin Ailport. “How long will Montanans suffer while President Trump uses our livelihoods to negotiate with foreign countries? Montanans deserve leaders who will push back and stand up for us in Washington.”
