Senator Tim Sheehy went on live national television this week to remind Montanans and viewers across the country that Montana, in particular, will experience significant economic blowback and pain thanks to the Trump Administration’s reckless tariffs and looming trade war.
In a CNN interview with Kaitlin Collins, Sheehy acknowledged that 95% of Montana’s imports come from Canada, Mexico, and China and that Trump’s tariffs would disproportionately affect Montanans compared to other states.
Sheehy also admitted he had no idea how long Montanans would be forced to endure the financial pain and uncertainty caused by Trump’s tariff war and compared the pain to the inconveniences of a home renovation.
“You liken this to a remodel. Sometimes those take longer than you plan for,” said Collins. “I mean, if you’re an American and you’re waiting to see, what does ‘short-term pain’ mean? I mean, how long do you expect that to last?”
“I mean, we don’t know,” Sheehy responded.
“Like the ignorant, out-of-touch millionaire that he his, Senator Tim Sheehy dares to go on live television and tell Montanans to tighten their belts indefinitely,” said Interim Executive Director of the Montana Democratic Party, Justin Ailport. “Montanans deserve courageous leaders who will fight against the Administration’s harmful policies– not another one of Trump’s spineless yes-men.”
