REMINDER: Greg Gianforte Has Fought Quality, Affordable Health Care
Helena, MT – During tonight’s gubernatorial debate, New Jersey millionaire Greg Gianforte tried to skirt over his out-of-touch positions on health care. A long time opponent of quality, affordable health care, Greg Gianforte has called Medicaid expansion – which insures more than 80,000 Montanans and has created thousands of jobs – “a disaster.” In Congress, he has pledged to dismantle the ACA “piece by piece.”
Gianforte criticizes government spending to help out working families, but he had no problem raking in government money for himself. In business, Gianforte received more than $34 million in government contracts, and up to 20 percent of his company’s revenue came from government institutions.
“Tonight, Montanans were once again reminded that Greg Gianforte cannot be trusted to protect our health care. We are in the midst of a pandemic, yet Greg Gianforte still wants to tear health care away from thousands of working families,” said MDP Executive Director Sandi Luckey. “Gianforte had no trouble taking millions of dollars from the government for his business, but he supports slashing the social safety net for others – in the middle of a public health and economic crisis. Shameful.”
