Over 51,000 Montanans have seen their health care costs go down since the American Rescue Plan passed
A 14% coverage increase over 2021 due to the expansions of cost-saving subsidies in the American Rescue Plan.
Helena, MT – Ahead of tomorrow’s anniversary of the American Rescue Plan, new data shows that 51,000 Montanans are now seeing reduced health care costs. Health care coverage in Montana increased by 14% due to the American Rescue Plan, as over 50,000 Montanans enrolled in Marketplace plans during this year’s Open Enrollment Period (OEP). This represents a 21% increase from 2021’s Open Enrollment Period, prior to the enactment of the ARP.
As a result of ARPA, families can keep more money in their pockets, with actual savings of $67 per month per person in premiums – that’s more than $800 each year per person.
This news comes as Republicans have doubled down on their promise to deliver an agenda of hiking taxes and raising health insurance premiums if they take power in November. On Monday, Republican Senator Ron Johnson confirmed that some Republicans still want to repeal the Affordable Care Act. That would mean that 100 million Americans with preexisting conditions would lose insurance protections, Americans with private insurance could see their premiums skyrocket, 21 million Americans would lose their insurance, and more.
“It’s simple: Democrats are working to lower costs for Americans. Republicans are running on an agenda of tax hikes and higher health care costs,” said Montana Democratic Party Executive Director Sheila Hogan. “ARPA saved Americans an average of $800 dollars last year in health care costs– that’s $800 dollars that Montanans can spend on groceries, child care, and other essentials.”
