On the 12th Anniversary of the ACA, 152,000 Montanans Have Health Care Thanks to Montana Democrats
Helena, MT – Since the Affordable Care Act (ACA) passed 12 years ago, Montana Democrats have worked tirelessly to continue to expand health care for Montanans in every corner of the state. Expanding Medicaid under the ACA– which Montana Democrats did in 2015 and 2019, despite a fierce fight from the MTGOP– brought health insurance to an additional 107,252 Montanans, nearly half of whom live in rural areas, and more than half a billion dollars to Montana’s economy.
In addition to greater access to preventative care, the Democrats’ Medicaid expansion also:
Expanded access to mental health and substance use disorder treatment
Contributed more than half a billion dollars in health care dollars to Montana’s economy
Reduced state spending on Medicaid by more than $40 million
Supports ⅔ of all Montana businesses by providing coverage for at least one of their employees
Drastically cut the uninsured rate in Montana by 52%
Kept Montana’s rural hospitals open, despite nation-wide trends of rural hospital closures.
“The Democrats’ ACA marketplace enrollment and Medicaid expansion brought affordable health care to 151,963 Montanans,” says Sheila Hogan, Executive Director of the Montana Democratic Party. “Access to affordable, quality health care is so critical for Montana families and businesses. Montana Democrats have spent more than a decade fighting, protecting, and expanding health care. And we’re not stopping now.”
