Career politician Brad Johnson files to run in GOP Senate primary as Tim Sheehy continues to be dogged by ethics issues

Helena, MT – The Montana GOP Senate primary just got messier as yet another candidate threw their hat in the ring, signaling a bruising, expensive contest as Republicans fail to coalesce behind a single candidate.

Perennial candidate and career politician Brad Johnson, who is a former Montana Public Service Commissioner, filed to run in the Republican Senate primary today. The move comes as Mitch McConnell recruit and Montana newcomer Tim Sheehy continues to be dogged by ethics issues, earning a barrage of bad headlines for his cozy relationships with lobbyists and Washington insiders and potential conflicts of interest with his government contract-funded company.

“As Mitch McConnell’s handpicked candidate flounders amid ethics issues and bad headlines, Montana Republicans are saying ‘no thanks,’” said Monica Robinson, senior communications advisor for the Montana Democratic Party. “This bruising Senate primary is sure to only get messier as Montana Republicans look for alternatives to the Montana newcomer DC insiders picked out for them.”

Last week, Republican Jeremy Mygland dropped out of the Senate primary and endorsed Matt Rosendale.
