NEW: Gov Gianforte was responsible for 25% of all Yellowstone Collared Mountain Lion deaths last year
Helena, MT – According to numbers recently released by Yellowstone National Park’s Cougar Project, four collared and GPS tracked mountain lions died last year. Three died of natural causes; one was killed by Montana’s Governor Greg Gianforte on public land.
This is not the first collared YNP animal Gianforte has shot. Last year, the Montana governor shot a collared wolf that was already caught in a trap. Gianforte received widespread criticism from wildlife advocates and resident hunters, as well as national media attention.
“An ethical hunter would never intentionally shoot a collared animal. GPS research we can gather from these collars is critical for Montana public lands and wildlife conservation,” Sheila Hogan, executive director of the Montana Democratic Party. “It comes as no surprise that Governor Gianforte is no ethical hunter.”
