Helena, MT – Montana’s national delegation addressed the Montana Legislature yesterday, touting President Trump and Elon Musk’s indiscriminate slashing of federal spending and workforce cuts that’s left the country in chaos and confusion in recent days. Most notably, not one member of the all-Republican delegation acknowledged the hundreds of Montanans who lost their jobs thanks to the administration’s reckless actions.

Last week we learned 360 Forest Service workers were laid off thanks to the Trump administration’s slashes and cuts. Now, federal workers across Montana are waiting on pins and needles to find out what federal agencies are next on the chopping block.

The hiring freezes and layoffs will also have ripple effects felt by communities across the state as wildfire suppression efforts, tourism, and conservation initiatives will be impacted by worker shortages.

“In the wake of hundreds of Montanans losing their jobs, our all-Republican national delegation has the audacity to stand in front of the Legislature and declare victory while thousands of Montanans anxiously await to see if they’re going to lose their jobs next,” said Montana Democratic Party Interim Executive Director Justin Ailport. “Their complete disregard for the people and communities impacted by the Trump administration’s hiring freezes and cuts is sickening and our leaders have never looked so out of touch.”
