Meet Some of the MTGOP Candidates Running for Office This Year.
Is this the best the GOP could find?
Helena, MT – At the close of filing, the Montana Democrats have strong candidates running in every single competitive district in the state. In a filing day press release, the MT GOP announced that “Republicans have strong candidates” as well.
Let’s take a closer look at just some of the candidates the Montana Republican party will ask you to vote for.
Arlie Gordon, HD 31 (Fort Peck), has inexplicably posted NSFW content on his public facebook page.
Alden Tonkay, running in HD 82 (Helena), peddles in dangerous election conspiracies, and has repeatedly promoted the Big Lie.
Kaitlyn Ruch, running in HD 84 (Helena/East Helena), peddles in dangerous and unfactual vaccine conspiracies, like calling the COVID vaccine “life threatening. [17:38]”
Rebecca Mapston is running in HD 94 (Missoula/Frenchtown) as a self proclaimed “adorable deplorable” in a district Trump lost twice.
Jeff Wylie, running in HD 49 (Billings), has a YouTube channel filled with long winded, conspiratorial diatribes, including a video in which he parrots Putin’s talking points that Russia is justified in attacking Ukraine. [5:43]
“By failing to get good candidates in competitive districts, and instead just trying to fill districts, the GOP will fail to expand their map in 2022,” says Sheila Hogan, Executive Director of the MDP. “Democrats on the other hand were strategic in recruiting candidates who have deep ties to their communities, have won the districts they are running in, and have the ability to appeal to Democrats, Independents, and Republicans needed to win tough swing districts.”
