Helena, MT – Ryan Zinke is joining Governor Greg Gianforte and Tim Sheehy in pushing the false and debunked narrative that abortions are performed moments before birth.
During the Western Congressional District debate that aired last weekend,Zinke suggested Montana’s ballot initiative enshrining the right to abortion and reproductive healthcare, CI-128, “gives a pathway for abortions to be conducted moments before birth.”
The statement is untrue and aligns with comments made by other anti-freedom candidates running for office in Montana this year, like Tim Sheehy’s false claims that abortion is legal “up until and including the moment of birth”, and Governor Greg Gianforte who has claimed the initiative would “basically put in the Montana Constitution the right to abortion up through and including the moment of birth.”
This information has been repeatedly fact-checked, including by the Independent Record and KFF. The Daily Montanan reported on Zinke’s debate stage lie over the weekend.
“Politicians like Tim Sheehy, Greg Gianforte, and Ryan Zinke have no place making medical decisions for women,” said Executive Director of the Montana Democratic Party Sheila Hogan. “These guys are dead set on stripping away women’s reproductive freedom and privacy and are peddling false, debunked claims in a desperate attempt to impose their radical and dangerous agendas on Montanans.”
