Gianforte and Republicans Push to Give Away Millions to the Wealthy, Vote Down Democratic Tax Cut for Working Families
Republicans Continue To Give Millions To Wealthy Montanans, Betray Hardworking Montana Families
Helena, MT — Governor Greg Gianforte and Republicans in the state legislature voted down a Democratic proposal to cut taxes for hardworking Montana families yesterday. In the face of Republican opposition, Montana Democrats continue to advance legislation that would reward the dignity of work and put money back in the pockets of Montana families.
Republicans on the House Taxation committee, just an hour after hearing the bill, voted down a Democratic proposal to expand the Earned Income Tax Credit and give $12 million a year back to thousands of Montana families. Instead, Greg Gianforte and Republicans in the state legislature are rewarding their millionaire friends with Montana-taxpayer-funded giveaways.
Creating massive budget deficits in order to give more money to millionaires is not what Montana needs. Montana families deserve better than the Gianforte tax scheme.
“Republicans are running a radical agenda designed to reward wealth, not work,” saidSandi Luckey, Montana Democratic Party Executive Director. “Republicans’ refusal to create jobs or cut taxes for hard working Montanans is a complete betrayal of Montana values and an affront to who we are as Montanans.”
