Daines Again Takes Credit for Hospital and Testing Funding After Pushing for PPP Bill With Neither
Daines Also Refuses to Disavow Trump’s Suggestion That Injections of Bleach Could Help Combat COVID
Helena, MT – In a Thursday tele town hall, Steve Daines once again took credit for relief measures he opposed, touting his role in securing additional funding for hospitals and COVID-19 tests, despite having pushed for a package that addressed neither. Daines also refused to set the record straight on whether or not he believes injections of bleach could be an option to help combat coronavirus.
As Montana working families are struggling to cope with the economic shocks brought by the pandemic, Daines has remained focused on fighting hard for corporate America. Daines voted for an amendment that would have capped unemployment benefits for out-of-work Montanans, while at the same time supporting a $500 billion corporate slush fund without adequate oversight. Daines and Senate Republicans also slipped a massive tax giveaway for millionaires into the must-pass legislation, but failed to speak out for rural hospitals across the country and in Montana that have struggled to stay afloat. And Daines has remained silent as new reports show that relief funds intended for small businesses flowed to big corporations.
“Even after facing repeated condemnation for his dishonesty, Senator Daines is continuing to take credit for crucial funding for hospitals and testing that he opposed,” said MDP Executive Director Sandi Luckey. “Senator Daines is used to dodging the important questions, but his refusal to address the dangerous suggestion that Montanans could potentially help combat coronavirus by injecting bleach rises to a new level of embarrassment. Between his refusal to speak to basic medical truths, and his failure to fight for Montana working families, Daines’ response to this pandemic has been shameful.”
