BREAKING: Gianforte Pick to Lead DPHHS Called for Stripping Medicaid Coverage, Botched Deadly Hepatitis Outbreak

Meier Will Oversee Montana’s Medicaid Program, COVID-19 Response

Helena MT – Today Governor Gianforte announced Adam Meier as his pick to lead DPHHS, the largest department in the State of Montana. Meier served in a similar role in Kentucky during the disastrous tenure of former Governor Matt Bevin, where his department bungled the response to a Hepatitis A outbreak that went on to become the largest and deadliest in the nation. Hepatitis A is a vaccination preventable disease.

Meier also indicated that he would solve Bevin’s budget shortfall by stripping healthcare from those that need it most, calling Medicaid expansion enrollees an “optional population.”

“During an unprecedented pandemic, Governor Gianforte has selected someone to run our State Public Health Department who couldn’t prevent an outbreak of a preventable disease and talked about taking away people’s healthcare to solve budget problems,” said Sandi Luckey, Executive Director of the Montana Democratic Party. “The people of Montana deserve both competent and compassionate public servants and Mr. Meier appears to be neither.”
