“There’s only one organ in a woman’s body that is not there to serve a purpose for her” says MTGOP Rep. Tschida

If Rep. Tschida talks about “wombs” like that, he doesn’t deserve to legislate them.

Helena, MT – In an email to fellow Montana Republicans, Rep. Brad Tschida – Missoula, laid out his shocking and offensive views on women’s bodies, saying that “a woman’s womb serves no specific purpose to her life or well-being” and that it is a “place set aside for another person.”

To quote his democratic opponent Rep. Willis Curdy, Missoula – who is running against Tschida for Senate District 49– Brad Tschida’s comments are deeply “creepy” and “ludicrous.”

“Rep. Tschida’s attitude towards women’s bodies is disqualifying,” says Sheila Hogan, executive director of the Montana Democratic Party. “If Montana Republicans talk about “wombs” like this, they sure as hell don’t deserve to legislate them.”

Rep. Tschida aired his backwards beliefs in an email chain to email to dozens of Republican lawmakers, according to a story by Montana News Network. He is not the only Montana Republican to push radical and out-of-step ideology. In the 2021 session, Rep. Jane Gillette sponsored a bill that would have forced victims of rape or incest to co-parent with their abuser. Governor Gianforte signed three bills that restricted abortion action last year, attempting to torpedo Montanans’ constitutional right to privacy. The MT GOP has made it clear that invading women’s right to choose what happens to their bodies is a top priority for their 2022 platform.
