Senate President and SOS Candidate Scott Sales Jokes About Pandemic in Emergency Meeting

Helena, MT – President of the Montana Senate and Secretary of State Candidate Scott Sales today opened up an emergency meeting of the state legislature by referring to the ongoing public health crisis as a “quote-unquote pandemic.”

Now, more than ever, Montanans need our elected leaders to take this crisis seriously. As the state takes deliberate action to stop the spread, elected officials downplaying the pandemic give individuals license to violate necessary precautionary measures, placing themselves and the communities around them at grave risk.

“It is absolutely critical that our elected leaders are sending a unified, clear message: this pandemic is a very real threat to Montana families and communities, and we all need to come together to protect each other,” said MDP Executive Director Sandi Luckey. “Senator Sales needs to immediately clarify his remarks, reassure his constituents and the state at-large that he recognizes the gravity of the situation, and urge Montanans to abide by the measures being directed by public health officials.”
