Zinke’s Behavior Proves The Race Has Razor-Thin Margin
Helena, MT – Ryan Zinke, Republican running for Montana’s new Western Congressional District, has asked John Lamb, the race’s Libertarian candidate, to drop out of the race and endorse him on two separate occasions. Despite having nation-wide name recognition and a massive out-of-state and corporate special interest fundraising operation, Ryan Zinke is losing support to a third-party candidate. Zinke’s behavior confirms Montana’s Western Congressional district race is one the most competitive races this cycle with a real chance for democrats to pick up the seat.
Ryan Zinke has every reason to be scared.
John Lamb has shown up to every debate and candidate forum he’s been invited to, which makes Zinke’s absence from the campaign trail all the more notable. Lamb is connecting with voters across the district, sharing his story as a father of 12 and a small business owner in Norris, Montana. Zinke’s Santa Barbara mansion and 41-foot yacht have painted his most recent run as just another power grab from an out-of-touch career politician.
Despite his out-of-state billionaire donors keeping his fundraising afloat, Ryan Zinke has lagged far behind in in-state donations. The Montana people who will be actually voting in November are not enthused enough about his candidacy to donate to his campaign.
Warning signs have been visible for a long time – in the GOP primary this June, Ryan Zinke barely eked out a victory from a Republican challenger, who he outspent 4-to-1.
“This race is close, Zinke knows it, and he’s desperate. His beef with John Lamb proves it,” says Sheila Hogan, executive director of the Montana Democratic Party. “Repeatedly trying to pressure a third-party candidate is clear evidence that Zinke is vulnerable and willing to do anything, including lying to Montana voters.”
