No Show Greg Gianforte Only Candidate To Skip Gubernatorial Debate
Gianforte afraid of answering any questions, cites “scheduling conflict” during statewide stay-at-home order
Helena, MT – MISSING: Greg Gianforte. Tomorrow, the Montana Farmers Union will host a gubernatorial debate featuring four out of the five candidates running for governor of Montana. The only candidate missing? Congressman Greg Gianforte.
What does Gianforte have to hide? To start, he has been accused of insider trading by his opponent, Attorney General Tim Fox. Gianforte continues to face intense scrutiny over the “near $1 million” he invested “in companies… that stand to benefit from COVID-19,” an outrageous move exploiting a national emergency while tens of thousands of Montanans are losing their jobs. Gianforte also has yet to answer for the recent reporting proving that he lied to Montanans about putting aside his assets in a blind trust.
Time and time again, Greg Gianforte has shown that he lacks the courage to be frank with Montanans about his plans for the state. Maybe he’s afraid of being asked about the time he sued Montana to block access to a river nearby one of his several properties, or introduced legislation to strip hundreds of thousands of acres of their wilderness designations without public input? Perhaps he doesn’t want to talk about his support for repealing the Affordable Care Act and stripping health care away from 152,000 Montanans? Or is it the time he lied to the police?
“If dodging public events were an Olympic sport, Greg Gianforte would be a gold-medalist,” said MDP Executive Director Sandi Luckey. “Gianforte should be straight up with Montanans about his ideas, not cower away behind lame excuses. Gianforte may pump millions into this campaign to try buying this election with TV ads, but Montanans know that a man too afraid to face his opponents has no business leading our state.”
