“We can’t risk someone like Tim Sheehy being elected to the Senate. He has called abortion murder and he is a threat to our freedoms.”
Helena, MT – Today, on the 51st anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Montana President & CEO Martha Fuller, Montana State Representative Alice Buckley (HD-63), and retired United Church of Christ Minister and Big Sky 55+ Board Member Barbara Archer spoke out about the importance of protecting reproductive rights and the threat Republicans like Tim Sheehy pose to personal freedoms.
“When Republicans propose to restrict or ban abortion, they are limiting not just access to abortion but to essential health care, and in turn are threatening the lives of Montanans and our reproductive freedom,” said Martha Fuller. “Matt Rosendale has said that there should not be ‘any exceptions’ for abortion and has cosponsored legislation that would completely outlaw abortion. And Tim Sheehy compared abortion to murder in an interview in April.”
“The right to make decisions about our own body is the most sacred, intimate right that we have,” said Representative Buckley. “The fact that we are denying women the right to reproductive freedom and reproductive choice means that we are codifying the belief that some of us don’t have the right to make these decisions.”
She added, “I feel so grateful for the way Senator Tester has prioritized freedom… he trusts that each of us can make the best decisions for ourselves.”
“Women should have the same rights to bodily autonomy as men, and with Roe v. Wade they have had that right. Now, Republicans, the so-called ‘freedom party,’ are squelching the freedoms of women,” said Barbara Archer. “We can’t risk someone like Tim Sheehy being elected to the Senate. He has called abortion murder and he is a threat to our freedoms.”
