Montana Democrats Are Still Asking for a Plan to Conduct a Safe Legislative Session that Protects Montana Jobs

“If you fail to plan, you’re planning to fail”

Helena MT –  Following news that Rep. David Bedey has tested positive for COVID-19 after attending the Montana Legislative Session in person, the Montana Democrats continue to implore Republican leadership to institute a plan to ensure a safe Legislative Session for the good of all communities that are affected by this potential superspreader event.

The Montana Democratic Party wishes Rep. Bedey well in his recovery as we do all the 85,568 Montanans that have been infected by this highly contagious virus.

For months Democrats have been asking Republican legislators for a plan to conduct a safe and healthful legislative session. During today’s Joint COVID-19 panel, Democrats continued to put forward common-sense solutions to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the Capitol, and limit the economic and public health ripple effects on communities across the state.

Today, a new report from the US Department of Labor indicates the US economy lost 140,000 jobs for the first time in seven months of recovery due to surges in COVID-19.

“The adage of ‘if you fail to plan, you are planning to fail’ comes to mind. For weeks Democrats in the Legislature have been pleading with legislative leadership to plan for a safe and healthful environment during this Legislative Session,” said Sandi Luckey, Executive Director of the Montana Democratic Party. “Republican failure to take seriously the threat of COVID threatens to devastate our economy, kill thousands of jobs, and shutter Montana small businesses. To this day, Republicans have provided no plan for dealing with the effects of COVID regarding the economy or people’s health.”
