Montana Attorney General: Gianforte is Financing Campaign with Insider Trading Profits
Attorney General Tim Fox Slams Gianforte for Ongoing Effort to Profit off the COVID-19 Pandemic
Helena, MT – In an email to his supporters yesterday, Attorney General Tim Fox’s gubernatorial campaign accused Montana’s lone congressman Greg Gianforte, of “insider trading,” and slammed Gianforte for investing in companies that stood to profit from COVID-19.
Fox’s campaign called out Gianforte, the wealthiest elected member of Congress, for breaking his promise to put his assets in a blind trust, and condemned “his recent investments totaling nearly $1 million in companies that are profiting from the COVID-19 pandemic.” The campaign continued, writing, “While most Montanans are struggling to make ends meet during this pandemic, Greg is financing his gubernatorial campaign with profits derived from insider trading that capitalizes on the COVID-19 pandemic.”
In response, the MDP Executive Director, Sandi Luckey, released the following statement:
“Instead of fighting to get Montana’s health care workers the essential protective equipment and tests they need, Gianforte is spending his time trying to get even richer. Gianforte has exploited the COVID-19 pandemic for his own personal gain and lied to voters when he promised to put his assets in a blind trust. Montanans deserve answers – now.”
