MDP Statement on State Senator Jason Ellsworth’s Sham Judicial “Committee Meeting”

Helena, MT – The Montana Democratic Party today issued the following statement in response to legislative Republicans’ abuse of power and attack on Montana’s independent, judicial branch of government:

“Republican leaders in the Legislature are turning a cold shoulder to Constitutional checks and balances in a disgusting display of political theater,” said Sheila Hogan, Executive Director of the Montana Democratic Party. “Senator Jason Ellsworth, who is leading this circus, has a track record of fraud and trying to abuse his power. Ellsworth has zero credibility and absolutely no business discussing matters of the courts or judicial reform. Period.”

State Senator Jason Ellsworth has a dangerous and disturbing record that calls into question his ethics and fitness for office. 

In 2009, Ellsworth was ordered to pay $600,000 to the Federal Trade Commission after violating the Telemarketing and Consumer Fraud and Abuse Prevention Act.

In May 2021, Ellsworth was charged with obstructing a peace officer after repeatedly demanding to be released from the traffic stop due to legislative privilege. View the dashcam video HERE.

Finally, Ellsworth was accused of domestic abuse in request for a protective order last year.
