Helena, MT– The Montana Democratic Party released the following statement on the passage of SB 224, adding Indigenous Peoples’ Day to the list of legal state holidays:

“This is a landmark piece of legislation and a step forward in recognizing and honoring the histories, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous peoples who have lived on and cared for the land for thousands of years. We greatly appreciate the hard work and tenacity from the Montana American Indian Caucus and Senator Shane Morigeau. The bill is off to the Governor’s desk, and we’re urging Montanans to continue to share their support for this important bill.”
