Helena, MT – Democrat Ryan Busse slammed Governor Greg Gianforte this week on the debate stage for raising property taxes by as much as 111% while giving millionaires and wealthy corporations tax breaks.

Busse dominated the only gubernatorial debate that Gianforte reluctantly agreed to. The full debate is online HERE.

Governor, you were handed a $2.6 billion surplus and you gave it away in big tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires like yourself,” said Busse. “The rest of us were walloped with the highest property tax increase in the history of this state, and people across this state are hurting.”

Busse called Gianforte out for not acting as his Republican and Democratic predecessors did in following the Department of Revenue’s recommendations to lower the residential property tax rate to a revenue-neutral level, offsetting the tax burden on Montana families.

Instead, Gianforte provided tax breaks to wealthy corporations, millionaires, and billionaires like himself, while pricing hardworking Montanans and seniors out of their homes

I’m running for governor to lower those property taxes, to fight for what makes this state special,” said Ryan Busse.
