House Republicans Kill Country Of Origin Labeling, Hurting Montana Ranchers

Beholden To Corporate Meat Packers, Republicans Abandon Montana’s Ranchers

Helena, MT — Continuing to do the bidding of big corporate meat packing plants, Republicans in the state legislature once again killed a bill that would help Montana’s ranchers succeed: HB 324.

HB 324 would have supported Montana’s ranchers by requiring country of origin labeling on beef products. Country of origin labeling helps Montana’s ranchers by empowering consumers across the country to choose the best beef — Montana beef. Simply put, COOL would have put money in the pockets of Montana’s ranchers. By killing HB 324, Republicans in the state legislature, keeping with their refusal to do anything to create jobs or stimulate the economy, are now actively working against Montana’s ranchers.

“Republicans continue to ignore the problems that Montanans face everyday — this time at the expense of our ranchers,” said Sandi Luckey, Montana Democratic Party Executive Director. “Montana Democrats are proud to stand with Montana beef and pork producers to demand fair prices for their world-class products.”
