Helena, MT – In an interview with Lee Papers, Senator Greg Hertz, chair of the Montana Republican Legislative Campaign Committee, admits that there are aspects of the Constitution that he would like to change.

Montana deserves to know, Greg – What changes do you have in mind?

Montana Republicans have spent the last two years trying to push an unconstitutional legislative agenda. The courts and the constitution have frequently held them accountable. Now, Montana GOP leadership is coming after the independence of the courts, by flouting critical non-partisan rules for judicial elections. And they’re trying to “amend or entirely replace the Constitution,” publicly bashing the document in interviews, and now going as far as to suggest 'tweaks' are necessary.

“Do not underestimate this threat against our Constitution,” says Sheila Hogan, executive director of the Montana Democratic Party. “The Montana GOP’s radical vendetta against the state Constitution is dangerous, power-hungry, entitled, and petulant. This November, Montana voters will not give them the unilateral power of a Supermajority, because Montana voters recognize that they do not deserve it.”
