Gianforte Shows No Remorse For Assault Conviction, Lying to Police
When asked about “the most infamous moment of his campaign,” Gianforte refused to give a straight answer
Helena, MT – During a recent radio interview, Greg Gianforte was asked about the night of May 24th, 2017, when he committed a violent assault after being asked about his position on affordable health care (he opposes it).
Host: “It’s difficult to talk about your current campaign without addressing the most infamous moment of your campaign for the U.S. House of Representatives, when you assaulted a reporter the night before the election. You pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault in relation to the incident in 2017. How has this moment affected you personally and as a politician?”
Gianforte: “We’ve done over 200 events… it doesn’t come up.” After the attack, Gianforte lied to the police, falsely claiming that he did not initiate the altercation, in direct contradiction to eyewitness accounts.
“Gianforte threw a tantrum and committed assault because he couldn’t handle a simple question, and then he lied to the police about it. Montanans have the courage to be honest about their beliefs without committing crimes because people disagree with them,” said MDP Executive Director Sandi Luckey. “Montanans deserve honest leaders, not a man who thinks he is above the law. Gianforte is unfit to be governor.”
