Gianforte, Knudsen Refuse to Come to Defense of “Socialist Rag” Montana Constitution

Helena, MT – The Flathead Beacon is reporting that Representative Derek Skees, a leader in the Montana Republican Legislative Caucus, has called the Montana State Constitution a “socialist rag” and called for its removal. The Montana Free Press reached out to Governor Greg Gianforte, Attorney General Austin Knudsen, and Republican Legislative Leadership for comment on whether they agree or disagree with Rep. Skees’s comments. None responded.

Montana Republicans only need to win three additional seats in the legislature in order to have the numbers necessary to revise Montana’s constitution, which guarantees the rights to a clean and healthful environment, privacy, individual dignity, suffrage, and more.

“Yet again, Representative Skees is offering an exclusive look at the Montana Republican agenda to come,” said MDP Executive Director Sheila Hogan. “The fact that Governor Gianforte and Attorney General Knudsen can’t be bothered to say a word in defense of Montana’s constitution says everything about their intentions. Montana Democrats will stand up to defend our constitution from the lawless Montana Republican Party.”
