Sheehy has lied about a gunshot wound records say was self-inflicted in Glacier National Park – and he still won’t release his medical records from his hospital visit that day

Helena, MT – With four days left until Election Day, Tim Sheehy is still refusing to come clean with Montanans about the lies he has told about his military service.

Bombshell reporting from the New York Times and Washington Post scrutinized the bullet wound Sheehy claimed he received in combat, but federal records and firsthand accounts show was self-inflicted in a Glacier National Park parking lot. Sheehy has refused to release his medical records or allow hospital staff who treated his injury to speak with the press.

As voters head to the polls, Sheehy’s military lies and refusal to release his medical records have been front and center across newspapers, TV, and radio:

  • Daily Montanan: “Military veterans on Tuesday said people should not trust Republican U.S. Senate candidate Tim Sheehy with their vote because he has shown himself to be an ‘egregious’ and ‘serial’ liar… ‘If Tim Sheehy really wants to tell Montanans the truth, he could come clean and release his medical records from the Kalispell hospital from that day in Glacier,’ said Rides At The Door, also a Purple Heart recipient… The Daily Montanan asked Sheehy for at least the second time during the Senate campaign to release the medical records from the event, but requests for more information about the incident went unanswered.”

  • NBC Montana: “The former park ranger says Sheehy’s story of being shot in Afghanistan is disrespectful to combat wounded veterans, saying he couldn’t let it slide. He says this could all be solved if Sheehy released the emergency room records. I reached out to Sheehy’s campaign to request an interview or to answer these questions if denied… Sheehy’s campaign declined my request for an interview but did provide a statement. The statement does not answer my question about why the emergency room records have not been released.”

  • Scripps News: “Sheehy claims he was shot in his right arm while serving as a Navy SEAL in Afghanistan. But a park ranger in Glacier National Park in Northwestern Montana says Sheehy accidentally shot himself while visiting the park more than a decade ago… But there is no military record of Sheehy getting shot in the arm.”

  • Montana Public Radio: “There's just been so much of it and so much that doesn't add up. It's actually kind of hard to keep track of everything that's out there on Sheehy. And Sheehy has done so little to respond effectively to it [...] this stuff reflects poorly on Sheehy. I just don't see any way of getting around that. And again, 10 years ago you could probably take any of, say, a half dozen of these things and they very well could have been the end of the road for Sheehy.”

  • Washington Post: “His campaign initially said in the spring that Sheehy was seeking hospital records from 2015 to verify his account, but later ignored questions from The Post about whether he had obtained those records or would release them.”

  • New York Times“Mr. Sheehy declined requests to provide The Times with military medical records that might show when he received any injuries in Afghanistan, or hospital records that would reflect that the injury in Montana was a result of a fall and not a fresh gunshot wound. He has not given the hospital in Montana permission to discuss his treatment.”
