Donald Trump and his Republican Enablers in Congress are Attacking Farmers in Montana and Across the Country

Helena, MT— In a new column published in Lee Newspapers, Justin Ailport, Interim Executive Director of the Montana Democratic Party, slams President Donald Trump and his Republican enablers in Congress for threatening the livelihood of Montana farmers with careless and nonsensical tariffs on Canada and Mexico.
In the column, Ailport outlines the basic economics of how Trump's looming trade war will negatively impact farmers and ranchers across the state, adding more costs and reducing markets for Montana’s agricultural goods.
Last week, Trump quickly decided to reverse course and delay most tariffs against Canada and Mexico until April. Today, volatility persists and markets continue to spiral thanks to Trump’s reckless actions. In the meantime, Senator Daines, Senator Sheehy, Congressman Zinke, and Congressman Downing continue to turn their backs on their own constituents.
“When will MTGOP stop sucking up to President Trump and start doing something to help Montana farmers?” asked Ailport in response to the pause on tariffs. “Trump’s decisions are tanking the stock market and creating more chaos and uncertainty for farmers in Montana and across the country– this doesn’t help them one bit.”
