Daines Lying to Montanans, Claims to Have “Fought” For Unemployment Benefits He Voted Against

Daines Has Been Repeatedly Caught “Bragging” About Provision

Helena, MT – Steve Daines has been repeatedly caught “bragging” about unemployment benefits he voted against, earning him condemnation for his brazen dishonesty. Now, Daines is taking it a step further, claiming that he “fought to secure an additional $600 a week for folks on unemployment insurance.”

Daines voted for an amendment that would have capped unemployment benefits for out-of-work Montanans, while at the same time supporting a $500 billion corporate slush fund without adequate oversight, slipping a massive tax giveaway for millionaires into the must-pass legislation, and failing to speak out for Montana rural hospitals. It’s clear that in the midst of a public health and economic crisis, Daines has been looking out for his wealthy corporate backers, not Montana’s working families.

“Yet again, Senator Daines is saying one thing to Montanans, and doing the opposite in Washington,” said MDP Executive Director Sandi Luckey. “Daines has for weeks been trying to paper over his shameful vote to cap unemployment benefits for Montana’s working families — now, he’s claiming that he ‘fought’ for the very thing he voted against. Montanans deserve a Senator who will actually work for them, not just pretend to.”
