After Dishonestly Claiming Credit for Unemployment Benefits, Daines Now Calls Them Too “Generous”

Daines Dinged for “Dishonesty” After Taking Credit for Unemployment Benefits He Voted Against

Helena, MT – After Senator Daines was repeatedly caught “bragging” about expanded unemployment benefits he voted against — earning condemnation for his dishonesty — he is now calling the additional aid to Montanans laid off due to the pandemic too “generous.”

On a Facebook Live forum Monday, Daines called the additional funds out-of-work Montanans may receive “pretty generous” and noted that “you actually can make more money being on unemployment insurance than you can staying on the payroll.” The comments echo the reasoning Senators in Washington — like Daines himself — used to oppose the relief, saying they thought the additional money “would incentivize workers to stay unemployed.

“Montanans are hard workers and those who’ve lost their jobs are eager to get back to work – Senator Daines should know that,” said MDP Executive Director Sandi Luckey. “It’s wrong for him to mislead Montanans and take credit for benefits he opposed, and it’s outrageous to suggest the aid families need in this tough time is too ‘generous.’”
