After lying to Federal Investigators, Zinke has now skipped two debates
Helena, MT – Ryan Zinke, Republican candidate for MT-01, has now skipped two public debates and has refused to have an honest and truthful discussion with Montanans about the damning report released by a Trump-appointed, and Sen. Daines-confirmed, Inspector General that revealed he had purposefully misled investigators who were looking into corruption allegations during his tenure as Secretary of the Interior.
For more than a week now, Zinke’s campaign has been missing-in-action, skipping public candidate debates and forums in what appears to be an attempt to avoid any questions about the scandal. He missed the debate in Ennis and a community forum at CSKT. He has been invited to Ravalli County Debate (September 7th) and the Lincoln County Debate (September 10th) – he has not responded or RSVPed to either.
“Zinke’s opponent, Democrat Monica Tranel, is a lawyer and consumer advocate with plenty of experience holding people in power accountable,” says Sheila Hogan, executive director of the Montana Democratic Party. “If I were Ryan, I’d be running scared too.”
Background:
The report found that Ryan Zinke lied multiple times and purposefully misled federal investigators, while they were investigating Zinke’s behavior, as Secretary of the Interior, when he denied two Connecticut Tribes’ plans at the behest of powerful casino giant MGM International, who was building a competing casino nearby.
