100 Days: Countdown To #MTSEN Primary

Helena – Yesterday marked 100 days until the Montana primary election. That means we can expect more of the same harmful positions from the GOP Senate candidates, and their baggage isn’t going away.

Californian Troy Downing will appear before a jury trial two weeks before the primary. He faces seven misdemeanor charges for illegally buying resident hunting licenses as a non-resident of Montana. Adding to his woes, Downing claimed a tax break on his primary home in California as recently as last year.

Wealthy East Coast developer Matt Rosendale isn’t exactly popular with Montanans either – in an internal poll his campaign paid for, Maryland Matt showed only 28 percent of participants would vote for him in the primary despite having close to 80 percent name recognition. It’s no wonder he has to seek the support of DC special interest groups like Club for Growth and Citizens United. As insurance commissioner, Rosendale has shown he’s willing to put his political self-interests ahead of Montanans’ health care, rubber stamping health care rate hikes up to more than 20 percent on Montanans.

While a sitting judge, Russell Fagg was supposed to be impartial, apolitical, and objective – yet he unethically accepted political money from donors he refused to disclose until recently in his shadow campaign. He’s now facing two federal complaints: one with the FEC for raising political money as a judge and a Senate ethics complaint for failing to comply with federal law for his multiple omissions and errors.

Whoever emerges from the GOP primary, Downing, Rosendale and Fagg don’t share Montana values and have proven they will put their priorities ahead of Montanans.
