Out-of-Stater Navigator: Tim Sheehy Wants to Dismantle Montanans’ Reproductive Freedoms
During Sunday’s debate, Sheehy reiterated his support for a national abortion ban, making it clear to Montana women that he will take away their reproductive freedoms.
And this week revealed that Sheehy’s still covering up his tracks. From trying to hide his board member position at an extreme anti-public lands group to trashing his recent endorser behind closed doors, Sheehy refuses to be honest with Montanans.
SHEEHY DOUBLES DOWN ON SUPPORT FOR A NATIONAL ABORTION BAN DURING SENATE DEBATE
Sheehy doubled down on his support for a national abortion ban during Sunday’s debate.
Sheehy also pushed the false narrative that abortion is legal “up to and including the moment of birth,” a widely-debunked claim that has no foundation in fact.
Helena Independent Record fact-checked Sheehy’s false claims, writing:
“Abortions after 21 weeks gestational age are only 1% of those done in the U.S., and ‘claims of abortions occurring ‘moments before birth’ or even ‘after birth’ are false. These scenarios do not occur, nor are they legal in the United States,’ according to KFF. Abortions done later in pregnancies are often because of medical issues such as fetal anomalies or the mother being at risk of death.”
SHEEHY TRASHED TOP ENDORSER BEHIND CLOSED DOORS
After Sheehy touted his endorsement from the NRA this week, new reporting from POLITICO revealed that Sheehy trashed the group behind closed doors.
Previously unreported audio revealed that Sheehy said of his own endorsers:“I’m not the biggest fan of the NRA, because I don’t think the NRA is really, truly worried about Second Amendment rights. I think they’ve really become a mouthpiece for the gun industry.”
SHEEHY TRIES TO HIDE LEADERSHIP POSITION AT ANTI-PUBLIC LANDS THINK TANK
New reporting from HuffPost and Daily Montanan revealed that Tim Sheehy failed to disclose that he was a board member at the Property and Environmental Research Center (PERC), an organization that has a “history of advocating for privatizing America’s federal lands.”
PERC has a “well-established, 44-year history of advocating to gut and undermine our nation’s bedrock environmental laws in favor of private property rights.”
Sheehy is on record supporting transferring public lands to “state agencies, or even counties,” which would make it easier to sell off Montana’s public lands to out-of-state multimillionaires like him.
MULTIMILLIONAIRE OUT-OF-STATER SHEEHY ONLY OFFERED PRICEY “PAY-TO-PLAY HUNTING ACCESS” FOR RICH TOURISTS
This week, HuffPost reported on how multimillionaire out-of-stater Sheehy offered “exclusive, pay-to-play hunting access” on his land by “contract[ing] with a private outfitter to sell paid hunting excursions and chose not to participate in a state program that allows free public hunting.”
After reporting that Sheehy was blocking hunters from accessing his land, Sheehy’s ranch “deleted a section of its website that advertised the ranch’s ‘impressive game’ and its five-mile border with U.S. Forest Service land.”
SHEEHY ON DEFENSE FOR BEING A TRANSPLANT DURING THE SENATE DEBATE
During the debate, Sheehy was on the defensive about how rich out-of-staters like him are changing Montana.
The consequences of an influx of multimillionaire transplants moving to Montana dominated the debate as Jon Tester and Sheehy were asked about rising housing costs, inflation, and tourism, and Sheehy floundered with each question. As a multimillionaire who moved to Montana recently and purchased luxury properties across the state, Sheehy has contributed to the rising costs burdening working Montana families.
