FACT CHECK: Maryland Matt Rosendale Rewrites His Record in New Ad

Helena, MT – Maryland Matt Rosendale is out with a new ad misleading Montanans on his record as he grasps for his next political office after his 2018 drubbing by Senator Jon Tester. Rosendale is rewriting his history on healthcare, prescription drugs, and fiscal responsibility — let’s correct the record.

CLAIM: Rosendale is not afraid to shake up the system

FACT: Rosendale shook up the system by repeatedly drawing allegations of campaign finance violations against his campaign over the course of his failed bid for U.S. Senate in 2018.

CLAIM: Rosendale cut expenses in the state auditor’s office 23%

FACT: Rosendale’s fiscal credentials are in serious doubt, given his vocal support for the GOP tax bill that created a trillion dollar federal deficit.

CLAIM: Rosendale lowered health premiums and drug costs

FACT: When Rosendale could have used the bully pulpit of his office to push insurers to keep rates low, he chose instead to roll over for the insurance companies and rubber stamp rate hikes of 23%. Rosendale has also repeatedly reaffirmed his support for repealing “every word” of the Affordable Care Act, which would significantly increase prescription drug costs for millions of Americans.

“Montanans expect their elected officials to be straight with them,” said MDP Executive Director Sandi Luckey. “If Maryland Matt is so out of touch that he opposes affordable health care, fiscal responsibility, and complying with campaign finance laws, he should at least have the courage to be honest about it.”
