Where do Montana GOP leaders stand on raising taxes for the wealthy?
Republicans in Montana’s congressional delegation opposed plan to cut taxes for families with children — will they instead cut taxes for the wealthy?

Helena, MT – As many Montanans with children are poised to soon receive cash payments under the stimulus package that Republicans opposed, Democrats say junior Senator Steve Daines, Congressman Matt Rosendale (at-large), and candidate for Congress Ryan Zinke must go on the record about their intentions to cut taxes for the wealthiest Americans while opposing relief for hardworking families.

“Top Congressional Republicans are clamoring to hand out tax favors to the wealthiest Americans, even though they have opposed tax relief for hardworking families with children,” said Sandi Luckey, Montana Democratic Party Executive Director. “Daines, Rosendale and Zinke must look Montanans in the eye and make their priorities clear: Are tax breaks just for their wealthy donors?”

Top Republicans in Washington recently vowed to cut taxes for the wealthy when they return to power. Sen. Daines and Congressman Rosendale opposed the stimulus bill that created the child tax credits. Payments for many families with children under that program will start as soon as July.
