To Save Political Career, Daines Neglects Montana Spending Priorities

Helena, MT – Senator Steve Daines and his Republican colleagues on the Appropriations Committee are reportedly refusing to markup regularly scheduled bills in an attempt to avoid debate on spending issues. By hiding from these tough debates, Daines shows that he’s more worried about his reelection campaign than fighting for the concerns of Montanans.

Daines has advocated throughout his time in Congress for withholding pay for Members of Congress if they are unable to pass a budget, yet his own inaction now raises the question of whether there could be a government shutdown, which would harm the very Montanans he was elected to serve.

Daines has failed to stand up to his party leaders and demand they stop playing politics and do what is right for the people of Montana.

“Steve Daines’ shirking of his responsibilities as an appropriator is yet another example that he’ll do anything to save his political career,” said MDP Communications Advisor Christina Wilkes. “Come November, Montanans will hold Daines accountable for prioritizing his short-term political interests over the needs of Big Sky Country.”
