Sheehy has refused to back federal IVF protections, claiming “nobody is talking about trying to ban IVF”
Helena, MT – New reporting from POLITICO reveals how anti-choice groups are working to lobby Congress to gut access to IVF treatment – including Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America (SBA), one of Tim Sheehy’s top endorsers. Sheehy refused to back federal protections for fertility treatment and falsely claimed via a spokesperson that “no one is talking about banning [IVF].”
Key points from POLITICO’s reporting:
“Organizations [...] worked behind the scenes over the last few weeks to distribute talking points, circulate policy recommendations and educate Republican officials and their staff about their ethical concerns with how IVF is commonly practiced in the United States.”
“Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America and other anti-abortion groups have attacked [measures to protect IVF treatment] as taking an ‘anything goes approach’ that ‘leaves no room for reasonable laws’ that restrict the discarding of embryos.”
After the Alabama court ruling effectively ended Alabama families' ability to access fertility treatments, SBA said Alabama’s court “made the correct decision” and came out against a legislative solution that would allow Alabama clinics to restart IVF treatment. SBA then opposed legislation that would create federal IVF treatment protections.
Sheehy will do the bidding of extreme anti-choice groups at the expense of Montanans’ reproductive freedoms.
