This One’s a Puzzler: China Hawk Marco Rubio Stumping for “China Cheerleader” Steve Daines
Helena, MT – Today, yet another out-of-state Republican is parachuting in to save Senator Steve Daines’ flailing re-election campaign. This time it is Florida Senator Marco Rubio – who has been an ardent critic of China, calling the country an “untrustworthy partner in any endeavor” and slamming politicians in both parties for turning a “blind eye” to the growing threat of China for years.
Well, Rubio must have been unaware that his buddy Daines has extensive ties to China going back decades – with China’s actual Ambassador to the U.S. dubbing him “China’s ambassador in Congress.”
- In the 1990s, Daines worked for a corporation in China, “helping that company expand into the market” while the company slashed thousands of American jobs.
- During his time in Washington D.C., Daines has been accused of doing the Chinese Communist Party’s “political bidding” and of going “beyond the normal give-and-take generally required to win concessions from that government.“
- As the pandemic first hit, Daines praised the Chinese government’s response, saying it “aggressively worked to contain” the virus despite American intelligence officials warning that China was misleading the world about the severity of the crisis.
“Marco Rubio may have wanted to do a quick check of Steve Daines’ record of cozying up to China before agreeing to campaign for him,” said MDP Communications Advisor Christina Wilkes. “No matter how Daines tries to spin it – he can’t hide from his history as a China Cheerleader.”
