Seeking Cover, Dishonest Daines Signs On To Sham GOP Healthcare Bill
Helena, MT – While the Trump Administration filed a brief in support of the lawsuit to strike down the Affordable Care – and explicitly arguing for the elimination of pre-existing condition protections – Senator Steve Daines sought “political cover” for his record of pushing to sabotage the health care law by co-sponsoring the PROTECT Act – a sham Republican bill that “would do little to protect people with pre-existing conditions” if the lawsuit succeeds. This is just the latest in Daines’ pattern of misleading Montanans on his record on issues ranging from China to public lands.

While Republicans have claimed the bill would protect those with pre-existing conditions, it is a “false promise” that “falls far short of its purported goal,” and fails to include protections like prohibiting lifetime or annual limits — meaning people with pre-existing conditions could see their benefits run out.

Daines has voted repeatedly to gut protections for people with pre-existing conditions, and to expand “junk” insurance plans which are not required to cover pre-existing conditions. Daines and his fellow Republicans have yet to offer an alternative to the ACA that wouldn’t reduce current protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

“Daines continues making a last-ditch effort to gloss over his abysmal record of fighting for his insurance industry donors, at the expense of hard-working Montanans,” said MDP Communications Advisor Christina Wilkes. “Montanans know this pathetic effort to rewrite his history of working to gut health care protections is too little, too late.”
