Spoiler alert: they think he’s just a rich jerk from New Jersey, too.
Gianforte is a well-documented jerk — he’s the kind of guy that sues Montana public lands owners to block access to a stream nearby his riverfront mansion.
But Gianforte’s history of selfish, rude behavior is much longer than that.
In 2017, Gianforte assaulted a reporter and lied to the police about it, leading Speaker of the House Paul Ryan to call Gianforte’s behavior unacceptable, and Fox News reporter Alicia Acuna to say “people were appalled” by Gianforte.
After hearing about the assault, an unnamed Republican strategist was unsurprised, saying “people were like ‘Oh, yeah, that guy, [the] billionaire jerk from New Jersey.’”
Years later, Republicans still can’t stand the guy.
Just last spring, Republican Attorney General Tim Fox slammed Gianforte for using his fortune (built by outsourcing American jobs overseas) to try and buy office – and for telling Fox’s supporters they shouldn’t vote for Fox due to his cancer diagnosis.
And most recently, Gianforte tried to turn a profit off the COVID pandemic that has killed more than 200,000 Americans, and refused to get tested for COVID after attending a concert linked to “several” confirmed cases.
Greg Gianforte: proving you can take the man out of New Jersey, but you can’t take the New Jersey out of the man.
