Republican Candidates for AG Support Overturning Protections for 152,000 Montanans With Pre-Existing Conditions
Knudsen, Bennion Both Support Repeal of the Affordable Care Act
Helena, MT – In the midst of a public health and economic crisis that has seen 80,000 Montanans lose their jobs, both Republican candidates for attorney general, Austin Knudsen and Jon Bennion, continue to support repealing the Affordable Care Act, which protects 152,000 Montanans with pre-existing conditions against insurance company discrimination, and insures another 80,000 Montanans through Medicaid expansion.
During this COVID-19 pandemic, the quality, affordable health care offered by Medicaid expansion and the ACA is more vital than ever before. Medicaid expansion has been a lifeline for communities across Montana — by supporting thousands of jobs, expanding access to mental health and substance use disorder treatments, and helping rural hospitals stay afloat.
“In the midst of an unprecedented pandemic, access to quality affordable healthcare has never been more important — but that doesn’t seem to matter to Jon Bennion or Austin Knudsen,” said MDP Executive Director Sandi Luckey. “Montanans expect an attorney general who will defend their health care, not work to rip it away.”
