Rep. Greg Gianforte Today Voted Against Protecting Montanans with Preexisting Conditions

Helena – Rep. Greg Gianforte today voted against a bill to protect Montanans with preexisting conditions, on the same day Montana’s Governor Steve Bullock signed into law legislation to protect access to affordable health care for Montanans.

The U.S. House of Representatives today passed the Protecting Americans with Preexisting Conditions Act, H.R. 986. The bill would block recent efforts to allow more junk health insurance plans that could raise the cost of coverage for people with preexisting conditions.Gianforte voted against the bill. 

“Make no mistake – Rep. Gianforte today voted against protections that would allow Montanans with preexisting conditions to access the health care coverage they need,” said Montana Democratic Party Executive Director Monica Lindeen. “Gianforte’s vote comes on the same day Governor Bullock signed into law legislation to continue affordable health care coverage for almost 100,000 Montanans. The contrast between who is fighting for our health care – and who isn’t – couldn’t be clearer.”

Gianforte has supported other efforts to make it harder for Montanans to get or keep their health insurance, like the Graham-Cassidy health proposal, which would have kicked millions of people off their health insurance.
