During their spirited primary campaign, Fox and Gianforte had their disagreements. Fox criticized Gianforte for suing Montanans to block stream access near his riverfront mansion, skipping more votes than 93% of Congress, and lying to Montanans about putting his assets in a blind trust.
Attorney General Fox – Montana’s top law enforcement official – also chided Gianforte over his criminal record, which he earned after “choke slamming” a reporter, and then lying to the police about it.
Infamously, Gianforte reportedly lashed out by encouraging Fox voters to stop supporting Fox because of his cancer diagnosis.
More than four months later, it appears that Fox’s concerns about his fellow Republican’s record and temperament remain, and that he’ll continue withholding his support from Gianforte.
“Greg Gianforte voted with his party 95% of the time, but he still can’t earn support from Montana’s top Republican leaders,” said MDP Deputy Communications Director Matt Fidel. “Ouch.”
